I use moodle in a 1 to 1 environment with middle school students. The lessons are easy to set up and the students really like the interactivity. The price of moodle (free) and the ease of set up makes it affordable to use as warm-up and closure exercises.

I have never seen such an in depth learning tool! And for free! The first opportunity I get, I will donate whatever I can to keep this machine alive.
Courses can be categorized, just about anything can be imported, teachers are easily assigned, and much more! Definitately a 5 star solution to distance learning.

I have been dealing with e-learning systems since 1995, and have developed mainly for WebCT (the best commercial system I know). Moodle is simply better. Easier, more flexible and topic oriented (instead of being function oriented, as WebCT).
It has a strong pedagogical and technical foundation. More that 300 institutions from more than 50 countries are using it yet. It is translated into 32 languages. It works with MySQL or PostgreSQL. The best LMS I know, and continuosly improving. :-)

The author has done an admirable work with Moodle. The software is extremely easy to use and it offers practically everything a teacher needs to set it up.

I tried a few others, but I believe that Moodle hits the mark. Excellent for creating sites that help students and teachers meet. Before all we had was Yahoo's E-Groups but this is a real good replacement. I would recommend it anytime.
