software is great, I have been using it since 2006 but the support and renewals are very poor. No response via email, linked in or twitter. Not sure if they are still operating? Nervous of upgrading again. Can anyone recommend an alternative?

Paid them to update the directory from an old version thinking they know it best. First, took weeks after payment for acknowledgement and update. When they did update, they didn't notify us...which meant we didn't catch huge issues making it useless. Now, months later...waiting for support to address issues as it is not displaying correctly. Rankings for the site and our revenue generating abilities tanked (and tanking)

phpMyDirectory is the top directory script. Regular updates to the script giving new and innovative features. The support is free which is amazing in this day and age when other companies charge exorbitant rates. The support forums have experienced uses you provide support and advice for free - amazing in this day and age -- this is due to their loyalty to the owner of the script. The negative reviews are sad to read but as an owner since 2005 I do not have anything negative to say about the script or the company selling it.
The program doesn't work right half the time and the support is absolutely terrible.

I have used the phpmydirectory software for years. After having the software updated only 7 months ago it stopped working. After days of asking the website for support I was I formed that the versio. Of the software needed to be updated. We paid the fees for this and it has been a week now since our payment was made and there has been no response about when the update will occur despite numerous emails asking she. This will be done. Our website has bee. Dow. For well over a week for now with no guess when they will decide to make the update. This is irritating at best. To make matters worse they do not have a support phone option.

Purchased this script for my directory website, found that it did not fit my needs. Requested a refund under their 30 day money back guarantee and haven't heard anything in over a month. Put another ticket in, no response on that either. Users claim that the developer is having "personal issues", but he is not responding to several tickets by many users. Additionally, development of this script is very slow. It can take a year or more for an update to come out.

I have been using PMD for about 10 years (08/21/2005). You can depend on this script. Their support team one of the best support team on the market... I have been in web design for years (almost 15 years) the most important thing with PMD, their upgrade system is flawless; a piece of cake, and anything comes up BEN (the owner) will fix that on the fly... I do recommend PMD to anyone...

I chose phpMyDirectory because it appeared to ticked every box that I could wish for in a directory system and I have not been disappointed. Installation was very easy and trouble free. While setting up my directory system I encountered a technical integration problem when trying to connect with Moodle, so I raised a support ticket. Ben Johnson at phpMyDirectory Support investigated my issue, diagnosed the cause and had my integration problem fixed within a few hours ... that's spectacular customer service!!! I use for phpMyDirectory for a online directory. I have not really done much work on the site in a few years yet it has fluctuated between 150,000 pages and 400,000 pages indexed in google with only 100,000 listings. That to me is a sign that the software has seo in mind. The support is great, they stay on top of tickets so most issues are fixed pretty quickly. Their forum also has many talented people who are willing to help.

I purchased the license and used the support service for three trivial problems I encountered.
I was surprised by the speed of response (24-48 hours) and the professionalism of the support team. They are usually very critical, but in this case I must say that this is simply the best service I have ever received.
Their professionalism is really comforting. It gives me the feeling of being supported by an attentive and caring partner to its customers. In the future we plan to develop new projects and for sure we will continue to buy new licenses phpMyDirectory.
The script is really powerful and versatile, although for this rather complex to learn. However, we never found a single option useless. Each setting has certainly been the subject of careful consideration. No bugs have ever been discovered.

Well, the title sais the two most useful features of the script. It is a directory script but you can use it for many similar applications and you can customise it to your liking. Saying that, you get working directory out of the box but you really need to customize it to make the most of it.
The script concentrates on directory side, so you will need to do some work on anything that is not a directory on your site.
No worries, yoyu are not alone in this. Great official support and great forum community will help every step of the way. It will also help if you know some HTML, CSS and can understand PHP.

This is the absolutely best directory script out there. How do I know? I own 42 phpmydirectory licenses and will own a lot more before all is said an done. Buy the first for $99.00 and any after that is only $49.00. Been using the script for over 5 years. The script is easy to install, easily customizable, and has great technical support. The directory owner is active in the support forums, has a great support team with him, and has a bunch of non employee advisers in the forums to assist all users. The best part of this directory is that I make money and have paid for my licenses many times over.

I have this product for some 2.5 yrs and its been on the back burner for a lot of the time.
It is now going forward and I have been very impressed with the speed of response every time I have emailed Ben Johnson at support in the past few weeks.
The level of support has simply jumped by leaps and bounds from the level of support I experienced in 2010 although even then it was really good.
Now it is simply excellent. Would appear that Ben has more committed assistants in his team. Bravo!
As I know next to nothing about programming and having been ripped off £300 by a very crooked programmer in the UK I am now confident that my issues will be resolved by PMD rather than seeking help elsewhere.
Finally, Ricky's listed under Extensions on the site also gets FIVE STARS and phpMyModules minus 500, yes -500.

I run 2 directories, both of which are PHPMyDirectory scripts.
All I can say about the script is, WOW!
Most scripts don't allow the flexibility that PMD does, or the support.
Whenever I've posted a question on the forum, it's never gone more than 3 hours until I've had an answer, or at least a "try this", or "try that". Ultimately, I get the solution I've looked for, if not from Ben or Dustin (PMD staff), then from members of the forum, who are all PMD script owners, developers, or administrators.
So good my experience has been, that even I can now provide some solutions within my limited knowledge of php code.
Anyone looking to buy a directory script, I say this to you... "Your search is over! PMD is the way to go."

I have only been a PHPMyDirectory user for about 6 months now. I am new to database websites and not very savy with databases at all but I found this to be very easy to install and customize.

Having been a member of phpMyDirectory for several years now, I can give my honest opinion about the php directory script.
I have tried almost every directory script available on the net, free and commercial for my business model.
phpMydirectory offers the best 'out-of-the-box' model, with more customisations than any other script that I have come across to date.
Having paid literally $1,000's for other scripts that do not come anywhere near to phpMyDirectory and at a price of only $99, this script is amazing value for money.
The scope for customisation is unbeatable - I dare you to find any other script that offers similar amounts of custom options that are available in phpMyDirectory.
The script really comes into its own if you are a developer, either a graphic designer or php coder.
The amount of customised sites on the net is awesome. Some guys have really sat down and used phpMyDirectory to its fullest extent.

I purchased the script almost a year ago. Installation was pretty straight forward and I was able to manage it myself even though I'm not a techo-geek.
The author provides very good to excellent support on the forum or via a ticket system. Both the author and his team will do their best to make sure you get your issues resolved to your satisfaction.
The other users on the forum are very helpful answering questions and providing modifications. While it may not happen every year since I bought the script there has been 3 updates fixing bugs and adding new features. Your license entitles you to free updates for 1 year which is a definite plus.
The online manual and online demo really allow you to test the script from both the user and admin side to give you a true idea of what you can do with this script.
The script is highly customizable and can be used for a number of different types of websites with discounts for subsequent licenses improving your bottom line.

The script is ok and functional, however I have provided the "support desk" all the information provided by my server/webhost to activate my site. Perhaps Mr. Johnson and his crew do not realize peoples livelyhood revolves around their own business. If my site was active, I would be very happy, but it seems unimportant to PMD. My server support people say it needs to be re-installed and the site will be active. Perhaps the next option will be my personal visit to accomplish technologies.

I was buying this script for a customer, and afterwards we bought and payed for several customizations. The communication went fine until we payed an amount of 1000$ for the customization part. After that we only got an answer at their "helpdesk" where they wanted a ticketnumber . They got this number sent, but after that we're not able to reach them in any ways. We have tried anything- both via email and helpdesk, but no response since the 23rd of May. We find it very unprofessional, and since we cant get any info from them about the timeline etc. we have today sent them an email where we would like to have the whole amount of 1099,- $ returned right away. After that expericence I would surely not recommend either the script and the people behind it. It's very close to fraud in our opinion!

I have used this directory 4 separate times now and it is definately the most versatile and powerful directory around.
I am not a php expert so there was a bit of a learning period for me but I would not choose a different script. And I was actually suprised at how much it can be customized to fit the layout requirements of one particular website.

I've run an online directory for the past 9 years paying programmers to customize my site every time my customers wanted another featu. I could not believe it when I found this package. They have really considered the point of view of the business owner and the administrative details associated with running a directory. I have used PHP My Directory on 3 different sites in the past month. The software is very easy to install and get running.
The software is very customizable and easy to understand. The installation manual is easy to read and gives great instructions.
Besides the software being a great tool, the customer support is the best I have ever experienced with any software program. If you are looking to develop a directory portal, then PHP My Directory is certainly a good choice. I will use the softare again in the near future.
One last thing. The price cant be beat. Definitely a great value.

With great support behind phpMyDirectory is really just top notch. Out of the box it works great. This crew does such a great job with documentation, support and a generally friendly community that anytime I had a question or needed an answer to something I didn't know it was always there. Even when I had trouble with installation and my limited knowledge of servers they were nice enough to point me in the right direction. I couldn't be happier. On the design side I was able to figure out what to do in minutes and part of the way through realized that everything was thought of and I was actually doing things the hard way! Get his script if you need some directory software.

I did a lot of comparison shopping and lurked around on different forums and found this to be the best script for my use.
The features that are available (some are add-ons) are plentiful. I needed a zip code radius, for example, and pmd provided, a lot of others did not.
There was a learning curve for me on the customization as I had not worked with tpl files in the past. My completed site now looks nothing like the "out of the box" (it is nice and clean) site and I owe that to a lot of hard work and couldn't have done it without the supportive community forums that pmd provides. Ben was always quick to respond to my questions and to help me fix things I goofed up. The support is great! There are experienced users that spend time mentoring, so-to-speak, on the forums which was very helpful to me. A great community of people helping people accomplish their goals.
The product has many options and the level of automation is great.
I look forward to use it again on another project. Very good experience for me.

first i'd like to set forth that i myself purchased and installed phpMyDirectory, (referred to in the user community as pmd) and that i'm not partner, reseller, what have you that is trying to promote this application. i find this important to state for obvious reasons.
pmd, you will notice has a very clean and user-friendly interface. i had scoured the web many of times for an application of such nature that was both well developed, continually enhanced/updated, and has good community support, i.e. forums, support response, etc.
pmd seemed to have all this and at a very reasonable price, so i purchased a license.
to note, buying a pmd license enables you to use it for a single web site but not multiple instances under a subdomain, additional licenses are half price, which i found attractive.
the pros: pmd can be installed easily and used (without modifications) off the bat, but if you're like me--a perfectionist--you'll probably want to make some configuration changes. most are easy to tackle via the admin control panel. if you're wanting to make ui, login, or other interface changes, (like me) you will find a wealth of information and helpful respondents within the support forums. every post i've made, i've received a response. this is a good sign (at least to me) that the application is alive, well, and supported through the developer and the user community.
the cons: i had purchased pmd wanting to use in as a classified ads type manner, although it can be used as such, there are some key features lacking, such as the ability for the user to delete his or her listing at any time. the good news on this would be that this and many other "classifieds" type features will be implemented very soon.
in short--if you're still reading--i would indeed recommend this to anyone (beginner or advanced developer) to consider for either a directory listing or classifieds application for your web site.
i have ocd and as mentioned am a perfectionist. this seems to fulfills all my needs... clean interface, well developed, and much to tinker with.

This is just my opinion. I purchased this app after testing 3 of the most popular classified applications available out there and I have to take my Hat off to the creator of phpMyDirectory. You can pretty much start a site right out of the box but it also has enormous room for customization. The features are extensive and can be adapted to pretty much all industries, products, services etc etc etc. It is SEO friendly which in itself makes the app worth 10 times what it costs. Other aspects extremely important to me are that phpMyDirectory is a highly stable application with a dedicated support and development team lead by a very focused developer.
There is also something that it is not advertised nor mentioned anywhere from what I was able to read and that is the fact that the developer handles support himself most of the times so when one purchases this application one also gets access to a brain worth it’s weight in gold when it comes to this type of application and one gets this previledge at no cost. That it is something that most of times only big money can buy. If that was not enough they will even increase the speed of support for a very reasonable and conservative rate. When I needed a customization to the script that was not part of the original script it was done at (again) a reasonable and conservative rate.
This review is the result of working with the script and the team behind phpMyDirectory for the last 12 months.
For what is worth, and this is MY OPINION I am Very Satisfied with the script, I will continue to build other directories with this script, I DO recommend this script to anyone looking for this type of application.

I have used a half dozen directory scripts, free and purchased in the last 5 years, and I have to say that phpMyDirectory is by far the best script on the market. The learning curve is much smaller than most scripts, and the tech support is excellent. Everything is customizable and it is very robust. I purchased this script in good faith and it never worked properly. I opened a support ticket and was ignored. After weeks of trying to get help I finally asked a refund and was ignored. Beware.

When you’re looking for excellent and professional directory and classified php scripts than I can advice you phpMydirectory.
Since a year or two I work with this fantastic script and in one word it’s a miracle!
The way it is build is so easy to learn and to work with!
By difficulties they have an wonderful forum, where most of the questions are easy understandable are answered.
For me they support me with very difficult problems which I had with my site.
The problems, most of the time created by myself, you must know that I don´t know anything of php
The minute I made a problem ticket, within 24 hours I received an answer and solution, or they fixed the problem already for me.

I have used this software for 3 new directory and classifieds sites. I have absolutely no programming skills but these are very easy to use. The user manual is detailed and extremely helpful and if you cant manage to find what you are after just email them and the support is fantastic.
I usually try to find what i am after first, but Ben and Anneliese have been GEMS in helping, often just fixing the problem straight away or letting me know where to find what i am after.

PhpMyDirectory is perfect for my directory. It is time consuming to set up, but very easy! With my experiance, anything that isn't has no features. I could not have asked for a better product. If you're after a directory script, then phpMyDirectory is the script for you. Even with little or no programming knowledge, its easy so easy to customise that you can personalise it in no time, and learn a lot in the process. When I was researching what directory script to use, the only software that came close cost 10-20 times as much, and didn't have anywhere near the community that PMD has. The tech support, both from the PMD team and the forums, is second to none, and have helped so much that I feel bad paying so little for the initial directory. The sort of people that rate this script any less than 5, must be the same people that wonder why their computers dont start when they put coins in the DVD slot.

This product is for developers that can find their way around code and don't need good documentation. The releases are buggy and re releases take place often. Some of the errors were so basic, such as no drop down category lists, or lack of counts, that we had to drop this code in favor of another vendor that provided better support at higher cost of course. So if you are willing to live with bugs, and poor support, and can figure out the code yourself, go ahead.

The script is written in normal PHP/MySQL. If you are working directly in the code you will need PHP experience to understand the coding. However, the template files are composed of HTML with the dynamic data placeholders. I am unsure what you refer to as far as category drop downs and counts, the script supports both of these without any type of modifications. It sounds as if you were trying to modify the code, and after doing so experienced issues. Please contact us and we can review the issue.

We're *very* demanding in our use of systems for http://www.ikeafans.com, we always end up tweaking things to the nth degree, and phpMyDirectory was our choice, hands down. I know Ben's chronically short handed, but I trolled through the forums extensively before buying, and the service level is good. Since we purchased, it's been superb, Ben's gone above and beyond in answering our questions, and even given us some crucial insight so we can make some critical functionality changes ourselves.

I initially bought an existing directory, which I use to list businesses in my Country, and after using and customizing it for 3 months, decided to buy another script from phpMyDirectory. It is one of the best scripts I have come accross ever. If they charged me 3 times the amount for it, I would pay for it with absolute pleasure. I've tried several directory programs, and I do agree that this is one of the best. It has a lot of features, and is easy to use. I've been able to customize it a lot, and I like the fact that all the templates and CSS file are together in one directory.
I did have a problem with links to php page urls: the ampersand got messed up in the links. I sent in a support ticket, on a Sunday morning, on a holiday weekend, and they had it fixed by Monday morning. Very impressive support.

A good script with good support. Although there is no phone support, the email support is very prompt, often within hours. The support community forums are very active with current, up to date information. A search of the forums will more than likely reveal the answer to any questions you may have about the program. That is one of the reasons I purchased the program. I like the feeling that I have someplace to turn with my questions. Support is not an issue with this software.

I found PhpMYDirectory online a few weeks ago after looking for years for this kind of software. I have to say this is the BEST on the market. I managed to finish my directory within a matter of days thanks to phpMyDirectory, it was easy to use, there was a vast amount of colour selection and many different layouts to use, furthermore they gave me some helpful tips and techniques to use in my directory, and most importantly it was very cheap. Full featured listing application that leaves the others flat in the dust.
Completely configurable from within the control panel and by tweaking the code. There is also a fast growing community of users offering free and commercial mods and templates. Fast, responsive and utterly thorough technical support that should be a model for other application/script producers.
I recommend phpMyDirectory to any developer building a PROFESSIONAL web directory.

I'm using the newest version of this script and lovin' it to death. It's adaptable in many ways. Easy to work with once you know what's where and there's a good community of fellow users trading tips and ideas on the message board. The support when needed has been great. Only drawback - I just wish there were more custom Mods for the script than what is available. And I wish there were more programmers out there who knew the script and could help out on a for-pay basis.

I have been a pmd customer for about 2 years. Our company is very SEO driven, and we needed a tool so we could move our flat file apartment listing service to something database driven. We were nervous, so we set up a test site to test if pages generated by pmd were picked up by the search engines. It performed better than we expected, so pmd now powers 4walls.us. BTW, we are a 10 person company with some internal IT skills. We are happy with the product and email support.

I had been searching for a long time for a directory-type of solution for my site and phpmydirectory was just what I needed. Installation was easy and the set up was a breeze. I love the administration - makes running it super easy.

- The install was very smooth.
- The install documentation was straight to the point (and I don't like huge documents if something can be explained quickly).
- From the feature perspective - so far, I haven't found a missing one. I might find in the future (since, there is no silver bullet software). - I had questions regarding to customization - They usually respond relativelly quickly. No big words, instructions, again, straight to the point. Highly Recommended!

I've bought and used this for several months now and I am severely disappointed. Not only with the inflexibility of adjusting the script and other aspects for customization but also with their support, which is severely lacking and lax. I've had to wait up until two days or more for even a reply when the site was down, for example, after trying to install an upgrade, and then all I got was a rude reply. NOT RECOMMENDED. Spend your money on something else.

The script requires some HTML knowledge to modify the design of the site. It is most likely this user was trying to modify the PHP code for advanced modification and did not know enough PHP programming to do so.
As seen in other reviews, our support is very reliable. It is most likely that this user may have submitted a ticket on a Friday evening, and did not get a response until Monday, even though we try to answer on weekends.

I have customised lot of different varieties of scripts, some of the scripts took long time as well as made me mad to know what is every function going to do.
PHPMyDirectory script gave my first impression on the admin panel and the great features. Though this script is not so very popular like few other free restricted features scripts, I recommend this script to be the best for any one who whish to bring out a great directory.

I have purchased the script a short time ago.
The support is very bad, i'm waiting a 10 days for an answer for a bug fix.
Also, THE SYSTEM NOT WORK IF PMD SITE GO DOWN.
In the support forum there are many posts relating this problem, because the script need to validate a license each time you log in on admin panel, if the PMD site is down you are cannot login.
It is happened with me too and i'm very stressed because PMD occult this detail before you buy the script.

The code is great customizable. Support is fast in respondig via tickets. However the admin part is hardoced and if they sellers website is down you can not access the admin part... even that I have the key.php loaded.. my site is down now and I am very upset...

Just installed this software, a very good and easy to use directory script. The support has been great and we would highly recommend this script.

I have been using this product for a month and am pleased with the purchase. It took me less than a week to completely reskin it to match the rest of my site...They encrypt some of the functions with ioncube, hasn't been a problem. They use AdoDB-lite for db functions (fast and simple). The forum/email support is super quick. Geo-locations is wierd, seems to be main hurdle for most. Feature rich, easy to customize. I wish it cached listings. Great Bargain, contends w/ apps 4 times it's cost.

I would like to say that i spent a long while looking at directories on the internet that was available but phpMyDirectory beats the lot hands down, i know nothing about php but the help & support from Ben and his team are second to none plus the forums are a wealth of information where you only have to ask and someone is willing to help, the admin CP is very user friendly you could be up and running within a few hours. Go try the demo its a great bit of kit

I've been a customer for about the last six months. Overall, this is a great product with responsive support and a thriving community forum. After contacting support about a problem I encountered after upgrading (my fault) -- they were quick to fix the problem by doing the upgrade for me.
Overall, with quite a few 3rd part mods and good custom template support, this directory script is flexible and robust.

PHPMyDirectory.com has an incredible support Forum, with thousands of users who post comments, issues, and free modifications for use. The degree of customization that you can apply to PMD is amazing.
Support is constantly updating the script. The new version coming out soon (10.5) will have many new features that were requested by users. Third party developers have also developed modifications.
An easy to use language file can change the entire niche in less than 5 minutes.
good software - poor bug fixing

at the first view the software beats other packages, but the support, especially the bug fixing period is very very poor. Therefore you need some knowledge of php to fix the bugs. And the encription is anoying. I took a day to get the software running because of ioncube. And the problem for any encrypted version is really what happens, if....?

We provide support through email, helpdesk, and forums. We are always available to fix any bugs you have, simply submit a support ticket and we will take care of any bugs in the original code.

The product is encrypted, they do not tell you that up front. Also, if their server goes down, so does your admin panel -- because their server has to validate your license. They claim it is to avoid piracy. They do not have a telephone number or address to contact them at. Forum members are very helpful, and most of the time so are their developers. They are very quick at deleting postings on their forum if the contents are negative (true or not). If they run out of business, so will you!

The script includes 99% UNencrypted source code. It is also mentioned on the requirements page that the script requires ionCube to run which informs the user of the encryption. The license is validated through our servers but it is NOT true that your site will go down if our server is not up or we go out of business. The script uses local keys to prevent this. By January 1st, 2006 we will also have backup servers for those users who do not have the local keys setup correctly.

This is a good script..worth the money I think, however, customizing it hasn't been easy. My programmer has found the code very difficult worth. On the other hand customer service is excellent and a limited amount of customizations is included in the price.
No response to emails

I was very interested in the script, but having received no reply to two emails, I too am sceptical. I am reluctant to make an online payment in return for the script and free installation when they can't even respond to an email. Shame, the script looked really good. They must be losing a lot of business!

Since my last posting PHPMyDirectory have contacted me and I have purchased the script. Within 30 miniutes they installed and set-up the script on my server. The have been extremely helpful and responded very quickly to each of my emails. They are more than happy to make adjustments and undertake additional customisations, where possible.

The best Directory Script from all the scripts here in HotScripts, don't look any forward get this one...
I look on Google in Computers > Programming > Languages > PHP > Scripts , and this one is the best.

The phpMyDirectory is not only a great looking, professional directory but I have to say much more for the customer service. No matter when I had a question, I recieved quick and detailed responses. The service was outstanding alone. If that wasn't enough, the customization was fast and tied in with everything that I wanted. I can't say enough. I plan on purchasings at least 2 more for upcoming sites. If only everyone could provide great service and great product, we should all do so well.

A fabulous script that is well worth the money. It is customizable in every way to give you exactly what you are looking for. It's also VERY easy to install with no problems. I am very impressed with this script as well as the customer service that phpMyDirectory provides. They are very fast as well as very professional. I would most certainly recommend this script to anybody looking for a business directory.

I really investigated all products available before deciding on this script. Once your site is up and running it is too late to discover you are using the wrong software. In this case I can honestly say that there is no better around, even at 3 times the price. No matter what problem or obstacle I anticipated, phpMyDirectory had the solution. As for support - you can rest assured that their support is 100 per cent. You won't be disappointed.

This is the best directory script on the market!! I am not sure why the other person gave them a 1 and complained but all I can say is that I had an excellent experience with them. Answered emails very fast! I had this installed in a matter of minutes- very user friendly and provides you with a professional look!
Trust me on this one-- You can't go wrong with this one!!!!!!

phpMyDirectory is without doubt a great script and even though it is not free the price is a great bargin. I had many custom needs and the developer has been beyond responsive all the way to spectacular! This script and it's developer deserve a score higher than 5.

I wrote asking questions about the software and got very vague answers.
This might be a good product, but I am skeptical about what service I would receive if I made a purchase based on my first encounter with this company.

phpMyDirectory is the best php yellow page/directory php script of its kind, and keep getting better and better.
With the simplicity and flexibility of the script I was able to customize it and
apply my own GUI interface with no hassle without php knowledge. And when I need help for customizations, their support has been more than satisfying in getting the job done for an excellent price if not for free. phpMyDirectory and its support team has reached a level far beyond my initial expectations.

This is by far one of the best products I have purchased today. You can by it "as is" or get it completely customized. What makes this script incredible is the support. I went ahead and paid them twice because I felt guilty for all the support they were doing. They respond quick and their knowledge in the products capabilities in amazing. They are true php developers. If support is a major concern in buying it, that's the least of your worries. You can use this script for any directory.
