This product started out great but quickly became sluggish as my site grew. It couldn't have happened at the worst time as I have spent quite a lot of money on advertisement. Their "useful" support kept suggesting that I enable caching but it's already enabled since the site is not set to "development mode". Horrible coding and database usage. I bought a different product from a different company and haven't looked back since.

Unfortunately I did not have a good experience with socialengine. The coding is terrible and almost impossible to customize. I wanted to customize some features and couldn't figure out anything. Not to mention that if your site gets even remotely popular it will come down to a crawl. The amount of database usage is ridiculous. To display user's profile page it can take over 50 database queries, and that's in production mode! And if you add more plugins that number will only get higher. I have never seen coding this bad. Unfortunately for me I did not get to look into the code right away so all of these issues become apparent only when my site started to grow. After several frantic support requests I decided to just switch to another product. All in all do your research and don't fall for fancy colors, thankfully there are better options out there.

SocialEngine has improved their code a lot, in the meanwhile SocialEngine version 3 was released. There are tons of plugins and mods for SocialEngine. Thats why we decided to create a new SocialEngine Community: http://SocialEngine-base. net. Find plugins, tutorials, mods and discussions.

Very poor code (I had to fix several bugs myself) and groups feature is all but useless because there is no group communication besides group page comments. Exceedingly hard to customize. Way overpriced, and basically all around waste of time and money. I could have written my own system by now with the amount of time I've wasted on this. I should also mention that the developers don't seem to be very experienced and there is absolutely no written documentation or user community for support.
